Session Tips

Maternity
WHEN TO SCHEDULE YOUR SESSION
There is so much to prepare for baby's arrival, it is so nice to stop, take a breath, and celebrate the wonderful bump that is your baby! I recommend having your portrait done between 30-35 weeks, but don't let that stop you if you are further along!

Newborns
WHEN TO SCHEDULE YOUR SESSION
You do not have to wait til baby is here to book a newborn session. Naturally a birth date is unpredictable so just let me know your due date and I will expect a call when baby arrives. If you have been given a date for an induction or c-section, we can book the session in advance.

THE PERFECT AGE
I prefer to photograph my little subjects around 6 days old. Older newborns tend to sleep less and do not curl up as easily. Newborn acne and cholic may flare up at around 1.5-2 weeks of age, as well.

Babies
WHEN TO SCHEDULE YOUR SESSION
Anytime! But typically you want to capture the big milestones like: baby holding his head up, sitting up, crawling, standing up, and walking! But really anytime is a great time to get wonderful portraits done of your baby!

WHAT TO WEAR
I suggest you keep it simple. Even your basic white onsie, or nothing at all! Try to stay away from distracting patterns and outfits that are too busy. They take away from your beautiful child! Let them be the center of attention and the main attraction! Although clothing with texture is a wonderful addition to the photograph! (For example chunky sweaters, ruffles, buttons, embroidery, or ribbons.)

Children
WHAT TO WEAR
Keep to outfits and clothes that are things your child usually wears. Make sure it is comfortable, and they are comfortable in it. Last thing you want is a bunch of pictures of a child pulling at their clothes! Keep the overall look simple and avoid strong prints or an overall too busy look. Although clothing with texture is a wonderful addition to the photograph! (For example chunky sweaters, ruffles, buttons, embroidery, or ribbons.)

Family
WHAT TO WEAR
Coordination is key. You don't have to be matchy matchy, but wear coordinating colors and try to avoid too much pattern. Also try to wear what you would wear most of the time. You and your family should be comfortable in your clothing, not tugging and pulling at an awkward outfit! Although layers and clothing with texture is a wonderful addition to the photograph! (For example chunky sweaters, ruffles, buttons, embroidery, or ribbons.)

Props
Does your baby or child have a favorite toy, blankie, lovey, or sport that you would like to have star in the picture with them? Bring it along to personalize your photos.
